In a significant effort to support Indigenous Australians experiencing homelessness, i24s Group (i24s) has helped more than 69 individuals to return to their homelands, in 2025.
Through its culturally informed Return to Country (RTC) program, i24s Group (i24s) assisted 38 Aboriginal people in January and another 31 in February – helping them to reconnect with family and community, and to secure stable accommodation.
RTC initiatives play a crucial role in addressing homelessness among Indigenous Australians. Many individuals find themselves displaced in urban areas, such as Perth, and facing hardship and disconnection from their cultural roots. By providing practical support, including liaising with essential services and community networks, and transport and accommodation, i24s ensures that those in need can return safely to their homelands, where they have family and cultural ties.
The Chief Executive Officer of i24s, Angela Kickett says, “Our commitment to culturally safe and trauma-informed outreach means we not only assist people in returning home, but we also provide them with the necessary support to reintegrate into their communities.”
“This work is essential in addressing homelessness in a way that respects and upholds the cultural identity of Aboriginal people,” Angela says.
The RTC service is part of i24s' broader Outreach and Advocacy homelessness response, and includes working collaboratively with government agencies and community organisations. Our initiatives align with the Western Australian (WA) Government’s ‘Housing First’ approach and contributes to the long-term goal of reducing homelessness across WA.
With homelessness rates among Indigenous Australians disproportionately high, i24s continues to advocate for sustainable solutions that respect cultural needs. We remain committed to expanding our RTC initiatives and working with stakeholders to provide holistic support to those at risk.
